Cosmin is the General Manager for Mastercard Romania and Croatia, with a demonstrated 24 years of experience working in the information technology and services industry.

His strategic responsibilities cover business, sales and people management across Romania and Croatia, overseeing Mastercard’s operations and major projects, as well as the relationship with all stakeholders.

Cosmin joined the Mastercard team in April 2007 as an Account Manager for Romania. In this role, he successfully launched new products and card programs, whilst also being responsible for the account management of the company’s main financial partners. Three years later, Cosmin was appointed as the Country Manager for Mastercard Moldova. Following his term in Moldova, which ended in 2013, Cosmin was appointed as the Country Manager for Mastercard Romania during the same year, and since 2020, he is also in charge for the company’s operations in Croatia.
Since 2013, Cosmin has been laser-focused on growing Mastercard’s business, driving and maintaining leadership, promoting digital payments, guided by the company’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility. Alongside an amazing team of professionals, Cosmin has fostered relevant partnerships with stakeholders and strategic partners, led dedicated initiatives and technology solutions, and consistently worked to promote the advantages of electronic payments for individuals, businesses, and the economy. His efforts have driven innovation and trust in the payment ecosystem, contributing to the growth of digitalization in Romania. Some highlights from his achievements at the helm of Mastercard include the adoption of contactless payments, which now reached maturity in Romania, the promotion of e-comm payments, the support in tax collection through the involvement in the development of Ghișeul.ro platform and mobile app.

Prior to joining Mastercard, Cosmin held the role of Card Fraud Manager at Bancpost, where he dedicated 7 years (2000 – 2007) to analyzing risk situations, managing card fraud prevention solutions, as well as monitoring any fraudulent use of cards and POS terminals across the bank’s network.

Cosmin is a graduate of the Management-Marketing Faculty of the Romanian-American University in 1999.

He practiced basketball in his youth, a sport that he remained passionate about and that instilled in him principles that he follows in business, including teamwork and fair play.
