Concert soloist of the Radio National Orchestra for 20 years and decorated with the National Order „For Merit” in the rank of Knight.

Alexandru Tomescu is the artist for whom music has no limits: ready to play the most difficult scores in marathon concerts, in month-long tours, the violinist is unanimously appreciated by the audiences all over the world. After graduating from the Bucharest Conservatory where he was taught by Ştefan Gheorghiu, he continued his studies abroad with Igor Oistrakh, Ruggiero Ricci, Tibor Varga and Eduard Schmieder. Winner of prestigious prizes in competitions such as Marguerite Long – Jacques Thibaud, George Enescu, Paganini or Sarasate, he has performed on the world’s most renowned concert stages: Carnegie Hall (New York), Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Théâtre des Champs Elysées (Paris), Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam).

In 2007, Alexandru won the right to play the Stradivarius Elder-Voicu 1702 violin, which belongs to the Romanian State and promised to make its sound heard by all Romanians. The Stradivarius International Tour has thus become one of the most popular classical music events in Romania. The first international edition of the Tour took place in 2015, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Enescu’s death with a unique marathon: all of Enescu’s works for violin and piano gathered in one session. In 2016, the second edition, titled „EXPERIENCE 2.0”, was dedicated to the musicians Bela Bartock, Serghei Prokofiev, Vasile Filip. The 2017 Tour was called- „SEASONS” and included famous pieces music by Astor Piazzola, Pablo de Sarasate, Manuel de Falla, played together with the Argentinian artist Omar Massa–bandoneon and Sînziana Mircea–piano. The Stradivarius Tour continued in 2018, with concerts in Romania, France, Belgium, USA, Spain and Denmark dedicated to the most famous Romanian composers over the last 100 years.

The Stradivarius International Tour went on its wonderful journey even in difficult times like year 2020 and 2021, marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, when the tour celebrated 99 years since the birth of Astor Piazzolla. The 14 th edition of the Stradivarius Tour 2021 sent to the public a message full of hope and joy through Ludwig Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9. For the 15 th edition of Stradivarius Tour – the message is PEACE!. Stradivarius Tour is the 1 th edition in 2025.

Some of these extraordinary performances have been recorded on CDs and DVDs that have enjoyed great success: Paganini 24/24, Stradivarius Obsessions, Bach to Basics, Integral of Sonatas for Violin and Piano George Enescu or Sonata for solo Violin by Bela Bartok, also “BALADA” Romanian classic composition, “ The Seasons” by Antonio Vivaldi and Astor Piazzola. Alexandru Tomescu teached the Violin at University West Timișoara, Music and Theatre Faculty.
